Suzanne Hogan is a podcast producer, storyteller, host, educator, presenter and consultant based in Kansas City, Missouri. She is also the Senior Managing Producer for KCUR Studios, the podcast wing of KCUR 89.3 FM, Kansas City’s NPR affiliate.
In 2020, she launched “A People’s History of Kansas City,” a podcast she hosts that shines a spotlight on overlooked everyday heroes and visionaries. Her storytelling philosophy is to lead with empathy and curiosity, center human experiences, and challenge assumptions.
Throughout her career, her creative documentary style has helped expose corruption in the Kansas City, Kansas police department, demystified the Midwest accent and taken her inside the den of a wild bear, a story that granted her first Regional Murrow Award in 2017.
In 2022 “A People’s History of Kansas City” was awarded a Regional Murrow Award for best podcast of the year. It also received second place national recognition from the Public Media Journalist Association (PMJA) and was nominated for a James Beard Award.
In 2023 “Overlooked,” the investigative podcast she co-produced, won the award for best audio project (small market) from the national nonprofit Investigative Reporters & Editors (IRE), one of the most prestigious honors in investigative journalism.
And in 2024 she was honored to win a Gracie Award presented by the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation.
She also tours internationally as the bassist in the rock’n’roll band Nature Boys, and is a founding member of the 816 Bicycle Collective, a recycle bicycle program in Kansas City, Missouri.
